Furahaa Saba is the writer and performer of "These Stories Saved My
Life." As creator and founder of
Learning Treats, Inc.,
Furahaa Saba brings a wealth of expertise and experience
in the fields of communications, public speaking, and theatrical
performances.
Furahaa
Saba's professional background is deeply rooted in cultural and fine arts. Her professional achievements include conceptual design, research, writing
original stories, script adaptation and live performance.
She
serves as a Cultural Arts Consultant for school audiences ranging from
Junior High through University. She has conducted public speaking training
workshops for Marine Corps recruiting personnel while a consultant with San
Diego Consulting Group, San Diego, California.
Furahaa
Saba began her Cultural Consulting career with her many involvements in her
native Mississippi. Here, Furahaa was the Artist-In-Residence, Mississippi
Arts Commission, Jackson, Mississippi.
Among
her many achievements in Mississippi include designing and implementing a
Reader's Theatre project for six elementary schools in the Meridian Public
School System, Meridian, Mississippi. Conducting a drama workshop for
high school students, initiating the first fine arts festival for Piney Woods
Country Life School in Piney Woods, Mississippi. Furahaa served as Artistic
Director, SunRise Theatre, Inc., Jackson, Mississippi, where she directed
and toured several plays, including For Colored Girls Who Have Considered
Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf by Ntozake Shange.
Furahaa
went on to found the Coloured Performing Arts Institute Meridian,
Mississippi, a nonprofit organization which raised funds, directed and
produced ongoing fine arts activities, including plays and performance
festivals.
Furahaa
Saba has a rich academic background. She is currently a Lecturer,
Department of Communications Studies, University of San Diego, San Diego,
California. She brings experience to developing public speaking lectures,
researching current topics for discussion and creating new teaching
strategies.
Also,
Lecturer, Department of Communications Studies, Grossmont Community College,
El Cajon, California. Her achievements include developing lectures in
Interpersonal Communication and Oral Language for Foreign Born Students,
researching current topics in the field, along with creating new teaching
strategies.
Furahaa
Saba credits significant influences in her development to extensive consultations
with author Dr. Margaret Walker Alexander. The Cleopatra School of Modern
Thought, a think tank of African American Women, additional training with
Toni Cade Bambara's Writers Collective Workshop, Atlanta, Georgia. Furahaa
attended Southern Arts Federation, Atlanta, Georgia (Technical Training for
Art Administrators), Humphrey Institute, University of Minnesota (Local Arts
Leadership Institute).

Angela
Hunter brings to Learning Treats a wide range of skills and talents. Her organizational skills are
evident in her technical support during performances of "These Stories
Saved My Life." As owner of Perennial Productions,
Angela Hunter further showcases her range of
talents through desk top publishing and web design.
As a
credentialed teacher in the State of California, and former Director of "Focus on Youth," an after-school tutorial program, Angela Hunter
serves as Learning Treats youth program coordinator. Her enthusiasm,
natural rapport with youth, and knowledge of California State curriculum
adds depth of content and an encouraging style to our youth programs.
Angela
Hunter has the ability to mold her talents to fit the needs of the moment. A former Area Governor in Toastmasters International, she has had the honor
of announcing many community events and activities including
The Mother
Goose Parade, San Diego's largest annual parade.
A
pioneer in women's athletics in her own right; Angela Hunter was the first
African American female athlete at the University of Southern California, lettering
in basketball and track.
Angela
Hunter is the author of "Screaming to Speak," and "Inspire a
Desire," dramatic multi-media presentations promoting civic education.
